My Commitment to Public Service

Public Service Experience

Public service has been an important part of my life for many years. To me, service is not about holding a title. It is about being willing to give your time, experience, and resources to help strengthen the community you call home.

For the past 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Calhoun County Board of Education. During that time, I’ve worked alongside educators, administrators, parents, students, and fellow board members to help make decisions affecting schools and families throughout Calhoun County.

One commitment I made early in my service on the board was to give my Board of Education salary back to our schools. I have continued that commitment throughout my time on the board because I believe public service should be about giving back.

Education and career opportunities for young people are especially important to me. That belief led me to establish the Tobi Burt Career Ready Scholarship, which helps students pursue education and training that can prepare them for successful careers.

My community involvement has also included coaching youth sports, serving through my church, working with local water and fire department boards, supporting law enforcement, and participating in organizations and projects throughout Calhoun County.

I believe some of the most important work in a community happens when people are willing to show up, work together, and find practical solutions to problems.

As Commissioner-Elect for District 4, I’m preparing to bring that same approach to the Calhoun County Commission. I want to be accessible to the people I represent, listen to their concerns and ideas, and work with residents, municipalities, county departments, community organizations, and other partners to address the needs of District 4.

I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had to serve Calhoun County, and I look forward to continuing that service when I take office on November 11.
